The first week of school flew by!
We have been busy in the JH and HS art classes getting oriented with the art room, reviewing material, and diving into the first project.
Over the first week all classes completed the following tasks:
*Reviewed the specific classroom syllabus and rules/expectations
*Completed a classroom tour
*Created a student portfolios to hold artwork
*Reviewed concepts from previous years using dry erase boards (color theory, elements of art, etc)
*Created their first mini-project: The Name Design (see below)
Last but not least, the final project was to create individual digital portfolios for each student. In order to do this, students used Google Slides as the format. Each time a student finishes a project, they will complete a rubric (see below), and the project will be added to the Google Slide presentation that will hold photos of all of their completed projects. In addition to the projects, students will write a corresponding Artist Statement (see below) to go along with the photo. You can see the portfolios of students (in progress) by clicking on the link for a particular class below.
This year, my whiteboard is filled out daily with our agenda and Learning Targets for the day in the form of "I Can" statements. These learning targets are a way for me to describe what I'd like the students to accomplish that particular day (or for a certain project) in correspondence with the state standards. The agenda and learning targets pictured here are for Week 2 of the school year (Tuesday).
