Here is an update on what my high school classes have been up to!
This week, students started their Independent Project for the week. This is their chance to create a project of their choice with free media choice and free choice for subject matter.

Intro to Art
Here is an update of what my freshmen have been up to in Intro to Art:

Our second week went smoothly. The drawing class completed their double vision projects and starting our OP ART unit. We worked on the shading project pictured here. Students chose an analogous color scheme to shade each column of the design. This project will be an on-going piece that we will work on for the next few weeks in between projects. Here are some examples of some works in progress.
The Intro to Art class is also going well! They completed their analogous circle drawings, and have moved on to our mixed media self-portraits. Students will draw their face on the upper portion of the project, and include an inspirational quote on the lower portion. A variety of media (collage, pencil, oil pastel, etc.) will be used to complete the project. They started collaging the background today. Their magazine choices must fit into a complementary color scheme. (Blue/Orange, Yellow/Purple, Red/Green)

The first week of school FLEW BY.
My high school classes are learning the routines of the art room, and have already created some artwork.
We began by going over the Art Room Expectations, playing a fun little round of Kahoot!
(which is a super fun website used for review games and such), and got our pre-tests out of the way.
All of my classes completed a simple "Zentangle Name Design" card as their first hands on project.
After completing these name cards, we moved on to separate agendas.
We reviewed the Elements of Art, Color Theory and 4 different Shading Techniques.
After the basics were out of the way, the Double Vision project was introduced.
Today, we laid out our designs - one drawing using Cool Colors, and one Warm Colors.
After their drawings are complete, we will combine them into a folded piece of paper.
When the two images are glued on in an alternating format, two images appear from different view points.
I cannot wait to see the results!
Intro to Art
After reviewing the Color Wheel, this class was introduced to their first project - Analogous Circles.
This concept was inspired by Squares with Concentric Circles, by Wassily Kandinsky (pictured below).
Students will create at least 12 circular areas using different Analogous Color Schemes with oil pastel.
Analogous is a term for neighboring hues on the color wheel.
Here is an example of a similar circle project, and some artists in action in class.
