After a final glaze, and many days of work - Coil Pots are complete!
The coil pots in my first hour 3D Art class are coming along. This week, students covered them in a layer of under glaze prior to their initial firing(bisque). I then fired everything on Wednesday, and they are now ready for a final layer of clear glaze! After that... I am excited to display them!
After the first load in the kiln fired successful, we started to paint and glaze projects today!
As you can see from the pictures, we were assigned to do a subtractive sculpture. We were given a piece of floral foam and told to make a 3-dimensional form. The catch was that either the design, or the colors we made, it needed to portray a mood/emotion. This week we are turning our focus to clay impression dishes. Everybody in the class has to create a set of 4 dishes that contain designs made by impressions. So far, all is going well.
In our first hour art class we had to make wire portraits. We had to create these portraits out of wire using pliers, wire cutters, wood blocks and hot glue. These portraits could be manipulated to make a portrait of anyone you wanted it to be. We had the choice of making them a flat panel when finished or 3-Dimensional by hanging them or being mounted on a wooden base. Our wire portraits had to be within 8" - 16" on all sides.
1st hour 3D Art students created sculptures in the style of artist Alexander Calder this week. They used materials like wire, wood, cardboard, foam board, and paint. The results are currently on display near the main entrance of the high school.
I cannot believe it is already March, and 3rd Trimester. My first year at North Central has really flown by. It seems like weeks ago I was just seeing my classroom, starting JV Volleyball practice, and planning planning planning!
I am really excited for this Trimester. I am going to be specifying the classes a bit more than usual. I will have 3D Art, Intro to Art, and an Art History course at the high school. This weekend I have been on Pinterest like crazy, and have planned ahead until Spring Break with fun lessons. Check out my Planbook to see what is to come soon. Can't wait to meet some new students as well.
