What have you been up to?

Dear North Central Jets Family,

Your teachers and classmates miss you! For anyone that knows me (Miss Westphal) knows that I always have a project that I’m working on and with most things currently cancelled or postponed... I’m going a little stir crazy, and thus this idea was born.

I would love to “SEE” what you’ve been up to and I know the rest of the JETS family would, too! I’m asking any aged JET (student or staff) to send me short video clips (the more creative, the better) answering one or ALL of the following questions about your time in quarantine:

How have you ENGAGED your BRAIN?
What have you CREATED?
How have you HELPED someone else?
How are you staying HEALTHY?

If you are wondering what I mean... here are some ideas:

How have you ENGAGED your BRAIN ?
[Examples: experimented with online learning, read a book, researched an interesting topic, completed homework, played a board game with family, finished a puzzle, etc.]

What have you CREATED?
[Any and all artwork would be great to see - you could send photos of the work, or a quick video explaining it!]

How have you HELPED someone else?
[I'd love to hear from some of my National Honor Society members on this one... Have you given up any of YOUR time to assist someone who may need a little extra help?]

How are you staying HEALTHY?
[I'd love to hear from some of my Healthy Youth Coalition on this one... How are you being healthy? Have you been exercising, eating a well-balanced diet and spending time outside? Have you tried to cook a new recipe? You could send video proof of any or all of these things.]

As I receive video submissions, I will compile them into a video to share with all of our JETS family. If you'd like to SUBMIT, please email the video clips (60 seconds or less) to ewestphal@ncajets.org.

Video submissions are DUE by Friday, March 27th.
My goal is to post the completed video on Monday, March 30th.

If you are not a HUGE fan of making videos... I'd even LOVE to see PHOTOS of what you've been up to! Photos could be easily added to the video/slideshow as well.

Any questions, please send them my way.
I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Miss you guys!

-Miss Westphal

Children's Book Illustrations

This may be my last post of ART OF THE JETS for a while... so I had to include of mixture of ages. The projects below are a combination of creations from 6th-12th grade.

Each student was required to design an independent project inspired by a children's book that had significance to them. I absolutely loved all of the nostalgic talk about what books came to everyone's minds as they brainstormed.

Click to enlarge the images below to see what books you remember! Happy Reading Month to all!
There are MANY online resources out there for those with access, please encourage your children to CREATE while you are home! Give your kids a screen break and let them color or draw or paint!! I plan to post projects I will create with my nieces and nephews while at home here and on my instagram - artofthejets. Check back for updates :)

Tessellations

Freshmen artists in my Drawing & Painting class recently completed these Tessellation paintings seen below (click to enlarge). Students first drafted a basic 3" grid and then created a unique stencil to be traced repeatedly to make a pattern.
