1st Hour Art History Project

This week the class is working on Art History Projects. We were given various options to choose from including but not limited to Sing it, paint it, or act it. I love this project because it lets us use our creativity to tell something of history's greatest artists. Go Van Gogh! -Rikki

Along side working with the best group in the world, this prodject was by far my favorite. Many of the students picked a wide varity of artists, also they pick many different ideas. I really think everyone worked extremely hard for this prodject. - Tristen Harper

Fairy Tale Collages-2nd hour

9/28/2012

This week during second hour art, we created a fairy tale collage.  We could pick any scene or character from any fairy tale and then we created that same scene using pieces of magazine.  The only rules were that it had to be from a fairy tale and that there had to be torn magazine pieces, as well as cut-out ones.  This was a long process and a lot of work, but it was fun!  Can't wait to see more of the finished ones!

First Hour Art

This week in first hour Art, we have been working on our Post-it Murals. It was harder then we thought it was going to be, we learned how hard it is to work as a group and not get distracted. The objective of this project was to take 1.5 inch sticky notes and glue them to make a picture on a big sheet of paper. We liked how it turned out and how spectacular it looks but we didnt like how messy and long it was to complete. We enjoy art very much and we have a great teacher.

                                         Trivet Project

This week in second hour, our job was to make a clay trivet. A trivit is similar to a hot plate that you might set a warm pot or pan on to not wreck the table. They were supposed to be 6 inches in diameter and include some type of coil. Once we have sculpted our tivets we have to let them dry completely and then glaze them to add color. What I liked about this project was how we could make any design on our trivits.

3rd Hour: Photography

This week in third hour Art, we had the objective of taking pictures of random objects that shaped letters.  In doing this, we made a powerpoint presentation for Friday on what we used for letters, and an eight-letter (or more) word we spelled with these letters.  Its not as easy as I earlier thought.  My favorite thing about this project is taking the pictures.  My least favorite element of this project is making the presentation and presenting on Friday.  The media we are using is plainly cameras and photo editing software.
This is a great project!  Excited to do more!

I don't want to give too much away, but here is a preview of some really fun times in 3rd hour - we just started a basic photography unit! Lucas will be posting later this week with more details :)

I filled up another display in the high school today! The art inside is a combination of Sharpie Self-Portraits and Scratch Art! The Scratch art was completed by my 2nd hour students - Portfolio. The process for the homemade scratch art:
1. Cover the entire paper with a linear design of crayon. Make sure to press firmly to create a waxy surface.
2. Paint the whole surface with black tempera.
3. Let dry. Apply multiple coats if necessary to cover.
4. Using carving tools to etch designs of your choice out of the black to reveal the crayon design.

Results - GREAT!

Art II had a round of the Art Olympics this morning. The olympics are a fun way to do a review. In this case, students were reviewing the basic color wheel. The games consisted of several rounds - some art related, some just for fun.

For example, blind pictionary, trivia, partner spelling (saying one letter at a time with another person), and 3D modeling. The 3D modeling round turned out pretty fun, so I had to share some photos. This round, for fun, had the task of creating a scene of a famous Disney animated feature film. Groups had 10 minutes to create their scenes. See if you can guess what movie each team was trying to portray. (Answers below the slideshow)

Blue - Finding Nemo
Pink - Dumbo
Yellow - Lion King
Green - Winnie the Pooh (Piglet)

Art II students (1st Hour) created these lovely Tint Tree Silhouettes. The paintings were completed with masking tape, and tempera paint. Through this project, students were learning basics of the color wheel - in this case, tint (when white is added to change a color). It was also a good test of their craftsmanship, and attention to detail. I am really happy with the results! Enjoy :)
