Art History - Students currently are designing an actual shoe! This idea was inspired by the Vans Custom Culture competition. Their shoe should be inspired by a famous artist or genre.
Painting - Students are finishing up a lyrical painting. They have free choice media, and are able to design a painting basic on lyrics to a song of their choosing.
Mixed Media - Students are completely switching gears to start a Clay Loom project. First we will create the loom out of clay and leave it to dry. Once the drying process is complete, I will fire them in the kiln. After the looms are fired, we will use paint to add color. The final step is a circular weaving process using yarn! Check out examples below.
Completed projects from the Mixed Media class are pictured below!
They are currently on display in the front case at the High School.
The Art History class focused on Modern Art this week. One of their projects was a one-day drawing in the style of Cubism, made famous by Pablo Picasso. Check out some of the results.
The Chuck Close inspired projects are moving along in the Mixed Media class. Students created their grids, transferred their chosen image, and are now painting. The grid lines are used to create squares of warm and cool colors. The next step is still a mystery to them, updates to come soon! :)
Here is what we are up to this week, April 13th - April 17th.
2nd hour Painting class completed their group paintings in the abstract style of Wassily Kandinsky.
We are finally back from our extended Spring Break
and the excitement of our boys winning a
State Championship in Class D Basketball!
Here is an update of what we
are working on in the Art room:
My small class of Seniors is starting an Impressionism Painting. They are researching famous artists from the genre and recreating a painting in the style famous for exhibiting emotion through strong, visible brushstrokes. In addition, they are also completing the same process with Post-Impressionism.
The 2nd hour class is working is small groups of 3-4 to create an abstract project in the style of Wassily Kandinsky. After the black lines are complete, colors are added with an Analogous color scheme. While drawing they are focusing on things like - repeating shapes, shapes within shapes, items running off of the paper, etc.
Last, but not least, 3rd hour is working on Magazine Zentangles. After choosing an image (or two) from a magazine of their choice, they then use sharpie to illustrate around it. The organized sharpie doodling is called Zentangling. In addition, they may choose to use the sharpie to enhance their magazine portion. For example, the details outlined on the shirt and necklace in the image pictured on the left.
