My HYC group (Healthy Youth Coalition) tried a new activity this week for Valentine's Day. Rather than focusing on the traditional love of a couple... our goal was to raise awareness for SELF-LOVE and create some social interaction among high school students. Each student was given a 1/4 of a heart with a portion of a suicide awareness/self-love message. It was their challenge to find the other 3 pieces of their puzzle. HYC members introduced this to all students during our Seminar class on Tuesday using this Google Slide presentation for reference. Once the heart was complete, students turned in their heart for a small treat, and their time was recorded. On Wednesday, the top 3 winning groups were announced. Photos of the winning groups, along with their completed prevention messages can be found below. Click on the small images to enlarge.
Thank you to all students for their enthusiastic participation in this activity, and to the HYC connections in Menominee for making this event possible. Last but not least, thank you to my small, but mighty new HYC group this year. I enjoy learning the ropes of the group right along side of the 9 freshmen who are part of it.
