Mrs. Hongisto's class had their SECOND to last art class of the school year today! Like all classes in the elementary, they are completing a project inspired by an element of art. The element assigned to kindergarten is LINE! We reviewed types of lines we've learned through the year and started to create our LINE Lion! Today we painted different lines using WARM colors to create the lion's mane! For our next art class, students will make the face of the lion and attach it to their painted background! You can review some of their progress in the photos to follow. Click on the progress images below to enlarge.

After completing sketchbooks, and paintings inspired by THE DOT, it is time for all elementary classes to move on to their first individual project! All projects are inspired by the COLOR WHEEL. Each grade will complete a project inspired by a different color scheme. Kindergarten - All colors :) 1st Grade - Secondary 2nd Grade - Complementary 3rd Grade - Warm/Cool 4th Grade - Monochromatic 5th Grade - Analogous Kindergarten Mrs. Hongisto's class will be practicing types of lines to make a Mexican Serape! This serape will be completed with all colors, along with a variety of lines (straight, wavy, zig-zag, spiral), and cut fringe on the edges! I'm excited to start this project with my youngest artists soon! 1st Grade Mrs. Ekberg's class will be focusing on SECONDARY COLORS, which are all of the hues that are creating by mixing the primary colors. These colors are orange, purple and green! Using those colors, a festive pumpkin scene will be created by mixing their own colors of paint! They have already started this project - check out their progress HERE. 2nd Grade Mrs. Dubord's class is assigned the color scheme of COMPLEMENTARY COLORS. Complementary colors are pairs of hues that are directly across from each other on the wheel, like purple and yellow for example. This class will be completing a paper-weaving project using a complementary combination as their base. Their progress can be seen HERE. 3rd Grade Students in Mrs. Eichmeier and Mrs. Veeser's classes will be learning about warm and cool colors. They will use this color scheme to create an illustration of a small grouping of pumpkins, with warm colors for the pumpkins, and cool colors in the background. 4th Grade Mrs. Martin's class will be creating a tree silhouette with a MONOCHROMATIC COLOR scheme for the background. A monochromatic scheme using tints and shades of a single hue, like yellow for example. 5th Grade
Mr. LaBonte's class will be creating a circle weaving based on an ANALOGOUS COLOR scheme. Analogous colors are neighboring colors on the wheel. The start of this project can be seen here. 1st Graders won the annual Class Competition for their good behavior!
They were rewarded with a chance to create some Warm Color Abstract Paintings that I will use to decorate the room over the summer! They loved it, and I am very happy with the results :) Way to go 1st Grade! |
