Congrats to Mrs. Veeser's 2nd grade class for winning our behavioral challenge between classes: Art Room Chutes & Ladders! They are the winners for the 1st marking period. Click on the images from our celebratory class period below to enlarge. Students earned a reward day complete with some group pictures, a yummy treat, and a special project day complete with some fun craft sticks! See what they started to create below (click on the image to enlarge). I made one of my favorite treats - Rainbow Jell-o Cups as their treat for the day!

Congratulations to the 3rd Grade students on their victory for the end of the year behavior competition in the art room. Students have a chance to "roll the dice" every time they come to art class to play Art Room Chutes and Ladders. If the day does not go well (not following the rules) they then loose their opportunity to play that day. In the end, the 3rd grade class victorious! They earned a special "color wheel" jello treat, along with a reward class period with a round of Head's Up! Click on the images below to enlarge. Way to go 3rd Grade! Other classes were VERY close to winning with scores of 99 and 98, but didn't QUITE make it to 100. Congrats go to those classes as well! I have started a new classroom management system in the art room this year - CHUTES AND LADDERS!
So far, it has been going well! The idea is fairly simple, but a mouthful to explain. Every time a class comes to the art room their goal is the keep the JET in the GREEN on the vertical chart. Yellow is a warning. Orange is the final warning. Red means we put materials away and discuss different choices we could have made. Once the JET is down it can move up from orange or yellow, but not red. If the JET is in the green by the end of clean-up, they get to play Chutes and Ladders that week. No green - no playing. I chose a student to play by pulling a popsicle stick out of a cup that has a number on it. Every desk has a name tag including a number. If I pull their number, they get to ROLL. Students roll two dice in hopes of moving closer to the FINISH which is 100! If they hit a ladder (vertical lines) they go UP! If they hit a chute, they go DOWN. As a bonus, if they happen to stay in the green for the entire class period, they get TWO ROLLS. What do they win you ask? Well, bragging rights a bit... and the opportunity to complete a CLAY PROJECT. Normally I only do a clay project with 6th grade. I do not have a kiln at the elementary building, so it is a lot of extra work hauling things to the high school and back. They were very excited about this. If the 6th graders win, they either get TWO clay projects, or a special project of their choosing (within reason of course). SO far, the 6th graders are in second place only by one space to the FOURTH GRADERS. We'll see what happens next week! Special thanks to an amazing Art Teachers group I am a part of for the basic idea. I love it. |
