Click on each image below to enlarge. The 5th grade class recently completed this fabulous dragon eyes! Students used oil pastels and their knowledge of analogous colors to add color to the tricky folded design. The results are great, and I'm glad I tried a new lesson with them! Check out the final results in the images to follow.

After completing sketchbooks, and paintings inspired by THE DOT, it is time for all elementary classes to move on to their first individual project! All projects are inspired by the COLOR WHEEL. Each grade will complete a project inspired by a different color scheme. Kindergarten - All colors :) 1st Grade - Secondary 2nd Grade - Complementary 3rd Grade - Warm/Cool 4th Grade - Monochromatic 5th Grade - Analogous Kindergarten Mrs. Hongisto's class will be practicing types of lines to make a Mexican Serape! This serape will be completed with all colors, along with a variety of lines (straight, wavy, zig-zag, spiral), and cut fringe on the edges! I'm excited to start this project with my youngest artists soon! 1st Grade Mrs. Ekberg's class will be focusing on SECONDARY COLORS, which are all of the hues that are creating by mixing the primary colors. These colors are orange, purple and green! Using those colors, a festive pumpkin scene will be created by mixing their own colors of paint! They have already started this project - check out their progress HERE. 2nd Grade Mrs. Dubord's class is assigned the color scheme of COMPLEMENTARY COLORS. Complementary colors are pairs of hues that are directly across from each other on the wheel, like purple and yellow for example. This class will be completing a paper-weaving project using a complementary combination as their base. Their progress can be seen HERE. 3rd Grade Students in Mrs. Eichmeier and Mrs. Veeser's classes will be learning about warm and cool colors. They will use this color scheme to create an illustration of a small grouping of pumpkins, with warm colors for the pumpkins, and cool colors in the background. 4th Grade Mrs. Martin's class will be creating a tree silhouette with a MONOCHROMATIC COLOR scheme for the background. A monochromatic scheme using tints and shades of a single hue, like yellow for example. 5th Grade
Mr. LaBonte's class will be creating a circle weaving based on an ANALOGOUS COLOR scheme. Analogous colors are neighboring colors on the wheel. The start of this project can be seen here. 5th graders started their first individual project today -
CIRCLE WEAVING! Before starting, we took notes on the basics of the COLOR WHEEL as a review. This project will highlight the color scheme of ANALOGOUS colors, which we call "3 neighbors" to simplify the concept. The background of the circle weaving was painted on a paper plate with an analogous color scheme of choice. Progress can be seen in the photos below (click to enlarge!). Next, students will add detail to the plates using neon oil pastel to create interest! I can't wait to see the final results! |
