This week, both 4th grade classes worked hard to surprise our amazing elementary secretary Mrs. Maule with a little hallway THANK YOU for her 25 years of service to North Central. Mrs. Maule is retiring, with Friday, February 28th as her last day.
Mr. Hellberg's class created the first layer of each letter using kwik stix for the bubble letter and construction paper crayon for the initial background design. Mrs. Martin's class finished each letter using neon oil pastel to outline, and watercolor to fill in the background. The final step was to attach each letter to a piece of construction paper to add even more color.
The display will be turned into a book keepsake for Mrs. Maule as a thank you! I'd like to especially thank Mrs. Maule for being incredibly kind and helpful to me when I started at North Central and wish her the best in her retirement!

Congratulations to the artwork featured below for being chosen for this year's Youth in Art Exhibit at the Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba. Elementary students who have art chosen will have a letter sent home with them this week with more information. Click on the images below to enlarge. Artwork will be on display from February 27th - March 26th.
Mrs. Nuttall's 3rd grade class learned about the collage technique of Henri Matisse. Just like Matisse, students used scissors and glue only to create these masterpieces! We practiced "drawing with scissors" rather than laying ideas out with pencil first. Click on the images below to enlarge to see some of the final results.
North Central students once again have artwork on display in the community. High School students recently hung a collection of "Heart Art" at Integra First Credit Union in Powers. Artwork currently on display was created by the Visual Arts class (10th-12th grade), and the Drawing/Painting class (9th grade).
In addition, there is a special collaborative project where the Visual Arts class created backgrounds for hearts made by Mrs. Walters' Early Kindergarten class. Artwork can be seen in the photos below (click to enlarge), but will be on display through February for the community to see.
