This week I passed back the artwork that was on display in the Youth in Art Exhibit at the Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba. Five artists from North Central were lucky enough to win ribbons! The only ribbon winner was 3rd grade student Conner! Check out his fantastic Birch Tree Painting below.

Now that Self-Portraits are complete, elementary students will be completing projects inspired by the 6 Elements of Art! Each class will learn about ALL of the elements, but will have a project focused on one of them:
Kindergarten - Line
1st - Color
2nd - Shape & Form
3rd - Space
4th - Value
5th - Texture
Today the 1st graders learned the basic by taking some ART NOTES in their sketchbooks! They did so well! After taking the notes, we looked through some art project examples from the past and discussed which elements we saw in the work! They DID GREAT! More to come soon! Sometimes after a long-term project (Self-Portraits), I like to do a one-day lesson for students to be able to take home. I guided the 1st grade class through a directed drawing lesson for adorable bunnies! Click on the images below to see the results.
Bunnies from Mrs. Martin's 4th grade class can be seen below. Click the images to enlarge!
Even more bunnies completed with the
3rd grade artists can be enlarged below!
All elementary students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, are currently creating self-portraits. This week, students will be finishing them up to be displayed! First up was Mrs. Ekberg's 1st Grade class. Check out the first few to complete the project below. I LOVE the results and cannot wait to display an entire hallway full of student self-portraits.
