4th Grade students created these one-of-a-kind nutcracker illustrations right before our winter break. We practiced drawing two different nutcrackers - one was fairly basic, and the other more advanced. After some guided drawing instruction, students were able to draw their own design, either like the simpler concept, or the more detailed... or maybe their own combination!
Nutcrackers were finalized with black sharpie, and filled in with either colored pencil or color sticks. Next, the top portion of the background space needed some pizzazz. Students used oil pastels to create a pattern of their choice. The last step was to watercolor paint the remainder of the background - over the oil pastel, and one other separate, contrasting color for the bottom section.
Overall, I always love seeing the creativity of students through this project, and I hope everyone else enjoys viewing them as well. Click on the images below to enlarge. Merry Christmas!!
