Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! To celebrate the start of READING MONTH and Dr. Seuss' Birthday, Kindergarten students started a directed drawing of The Lorax. The drawings below (click to enlarge) are just the START, but I had to share!
Both of our Kindergarten classes focused on learning all types of LINES used in art for the first couple of art classes! Click the images below to enlarge.
After practicing types of lines in sketchbooks, students used KWIK STIX to draw BIG, THICK lines! During our second class, students reviewed the lines and squeezed LITTLE, SKINNY lines in between with crayola markers.
Once students were experts on lines we were able to talk about 3-D art and create our first SCULPTURE with LINES! (Shout out to master art teacher Cassie Stephens for this wonderful lesson!) Click to enlarge.
Lines were the focus for both Mrs. Walters' EK class, as well as Mrs. Meiner's Kindergarten group.
Mrs. Hongisto's class had their SECOND to last art class of the school year today! Like all classes in the elementary, they are completing a project inspired by an element of art. The element assigned to kindergarten is LINE! We reviewed types of lines we've learned through the year and started to create our LINE Lion! Today we painted different lines using WARM colors to create the lion's mane! For our next art class, students will make the face of the lion and attach it to their painted background! You can review some of their progress in the photos to follow.

After practicing drawing three different dinosaurs with me, the Kindergarten class had their chance to fly solo. They drew one dinosaur of their choice and created an environment for it. Some chose volcanoes and trees, while others felts city buildings were more fitting. The results are quite adorable - enjoy!
