1st Grade students started this project by taking a few notes in their sketchbooks on the COLOR WHEEL. Their project is focused around SECONDARY COLORS (orange, green, and purple) which are made by mixing two primary colors (red, yellow or blue). After learning about the color wheel, we did a practice drawing of a pumpkin! (check out a few examples below)
After our practice drawing, students penciled in their final layout on a larger paper. Then, red and yellow were mixed to make the orange for the pumpkins!
In the next class, students mixed red and blue to make PURPLE, along with yellow and blue to make GREEN! Grass detail was also added with a darker green as well!

The final step for these projects was the DETAILS! Students added stars and a moon to create a night sky using cool colored construction paper crayons. Next, blades of grass were added with construction paper crayons and construction paper. Finally, a silly face was added using cut construction paper. The results definitely brighten up the hallway and will make you smile. Good job 1st grade! Check out all of the final results below.
