Last week, North Central was lucky enough to have a guest speaker for our 9th - 12th grade students: EJ Carrion! This event was sponsored by the Healthy Youth Coalition and was grant funded. Shout out to everyone who made this possible - it was a great experience for everyone involved. EJ spoke on finding motivation for your future, taking risks, and not being afraid to "make the jump" through sharing his own experiences. You can learn more about EJ's message from his website here. His book, Accelerate Your Success: How to Create A Future and Stand Out When College is Not Enough is available on amazon. EJ had many great "takeaways" that really resonated with our student body, for example: "It's not about your smart, it's about your heart." "It's not about your IQ, it's about your I WILL." After listening to the presentation on Friday, February 28th, HYC was required to have a follow-up activity through the grant. On Tuesday, March 3rd, all high school seminar classes participated in this activity. Students were shown this Google Slide Presentation to initiate discussion and prompt the Index Card Art. See images below to view the results! Click on the images below to enlarge and read what students see in their future and what risk they may have to tackle to accomplish those goals. In addition, my VISUAL ARTS class had the challenge of making inspiration posters inspired by EJ's speech. The results can be viewed below, click to enlarge.
