Our second week went smoothly. The drawing class completed their double vision projects and starting our OP ART unit. We worked on the shading project pictured here. Students chose an analogous color scheme to shade each column of the design. This project will be an on-going piece that we will work on for the next few weeks in between projects. Here are some examples of some works in progress.
The Intro to Art class is also going well! They completed their analogous circle drawings, and have moved on to our mixed media self-portraits. Students will draw their face on the upper portion of the project, and include an inspirational quote on the lower portion. A variety of media (collage, pencil, oil pastel, etc.) will be used to complete the project. They started collaging the background today. Their magazine choices must fit into a complementary color scheme. (Blue/Orange, Yellow/Purple, Red/Green)
A similar project from a previous year can be found HERE.
Check back for updates soon! :)
High School art students completed their first week in the second Trimester. Sketchbooks were assigned, as well as creating a portfolio (pictured below). In addition to those basics, they were introduced to Op Art. Op Art focuses on optical illusions created through combination of lines and shapes. The results may make you squint a bit, or turn your head to the side, but I am happy with them :) Next week, students will start blogging on their own, and move onto the Color Wheel with their first painting project.
Today was the first day of high school art (1st and 3rd Hour) of the 2nd Trimester. We started off the year with a project in Op Art. Op Art is short for Optical, as in optical illusions. The project is completed first with pencil, then sharpie, and finally shaded with colored pencil. This piece gives me a chance to analyze student skill level, and just learn the ropes of the art room :)
Reminder to students - DUE Friday:
• Sketchbook with 30 minutes of drawing
• Portfolio (made with a folded piece of poster board)
• Photo Release
• This first project :)
