Third trimester is already here! In addition to a Painting class, I am teaching two brand new courses for North Central - Art History and Mixed Media. I am very excited about both of them, and have a lot of creative lessons planned.
This week, my Painting class did an overview of color theory. Their first painting is a classic monochromatic tree project. The final results will be completed at the end of the week.
The Art History class started from the beginning with prehistoric art. They researched some of the first examples of art - Venus of Willendorf, Caves of Lascaux and Stonehenge. Wednesday was spent experimenting with clay and applying concepts they researched. Thursday, we moved to Egyptian Profiles, which are due on Friday.
The Mixed Media class is completing a collage inspired by the artist Michelle Caplan. Items that must be included in the piece are text, painting, newspaper collage and a photo transfer using Mod Podge.
Check back for results to be posted soon!
This week is our first without the Seniors... :/ But we are going strong. Some classes are working on a fun new project - packaging tape sculptures! Check out famous public artist's Mark Jenkins website!
My 3rd Hour class is working on Art History Mini-Golf holes. I don't want to give too much away... but check out the photo previews!
3rd hour Art History students created these fantastic Pinwheels this week. The sections of the wheel were created in the style of four famous artists of their choice. Media could vary. Anything from paint, oil pastel, sharpie, or colored pencil could be used to complete them. The results are vibrant, unique and make for a great display!
I cannot believe it is already March, and 3rd Trimester. My first year at North Central has really flown by. It seems like weeks ago I was just seeing my classroom, starting JV Volleyball practice, and planning planning planning!
I am really excited for this Trimester. I am going to be specifying the classes a bit more than usual. I will have 3D Art, Intro to Art, and an Art History course at the high school. This weekend I have been on Pinterest like crazy, and have planned ahead until Spring Break with fun lessons. Check out my Planbook to see what is to come soon. Can't wait to meet some new students as well.
Earlier this week we have worked on researching an artist for inspiration. We then created a piece of art work that resembled their work.
Then the end of the week we worked on Keith Haring's form of art work, with group members. We had two days to complete this project and they will be shown in the art show this May.
This week we worked on Art History an Independent Project. We picked a historic artist and re-created a piece of their art, or we could create our own work using their concept. We also worked on Keith Harling projects,
This week in 1st hour we worked on a grid enlargement of two famous paintings, Starry Night and Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh. Each student had their own section of the paintings they had to recreate in their own style. After finishing the Grid Enlargements, we finished up our presenations on Letter Photography. We also made inchies!! Inchies are 2 x 2 inch wooden squares that we put our name on and decorated how we wanted to. Miss Westphal is taking our inchies to cover the top of a table, our art is just that fantastic! :D
This week we finally put together our whole Grid Inlargement of American Gothic (the origanal artist is Grant wood.) Also this week we started to do our Cut-Out Posters project, we did this by looking up a famous peice of artwork and redrawing it on a big sheet of paper. Then we had to cut out the face of the peice of artwork so someone can place your head through the hole. To end our week we had to do an Inchies assignment which are, designing a little peice of wood how ever you would like but it has to have your name on it.
