The week before my Visual Arts class left for the Senior Trip to Chicago, they were introduced to a collection of famous artwork. I chose artwork specifically from the Art Institute in Chicago so they could see it all in person. The day before their departure I challenged them to find ALL of the art from the research packet and document proof of their findings through pictures. They were successful in finding ALL of the artwork and including everyone in our class!
Their prize? The completion of this task earned everyone a free pass from the test I had planned for their last week of class.
(The real world experience of touring a gallery beats a test any day!) Special thanks to Marissa for sending me the pictures!

My 2nd Hour 3D Art/Mixed Media class recently completed one of my favorite projects -
Art History Mini-Golf! Students worked in groups to design a functional mini golf hole inspired by a famous artist of their choice. Before construction, students researched their artists and created an informational poster. See finished examples below.
Students then constructed their miniature golf hole using cardboard and other materials. See their final results with their corresponding artist below.
Olivia, Brien, Sam & Sydney
Marti, Nikki, Kallie & Natalie
Vincent Van Gogh
Jasmine, Verany & Ashley
Zoe, Bryce, & Skylar
Miranda & Kaylee
When all golf holes were completed, the Mini-Masters Tournament could begin!
All 4 of my classes got to play through their projects and critique them after each hole was complete via a google form. They rated each project on things like craftsmanship, creativity and functionality, along with giving them constructive criticism on their informational posters. The creators were able to read through comments and scores when everything was complete. I also used this information when grading their work.
Students also cast a popular vote for which hole they thought was the BEST!
The winning project for that vote was BANKSY!
Congrats to the following Mini-Masters Winners!

Now that the busy schedule of the end of October is over, I can finally get more website updates in! My three high school classes have recently finished up two large projects. My 2 Intro to Art classes have finished a large project - Famous Artist Posters. They had free choice on their artist, and did lots of research to complete their poster to fit all the rubric requirements. The final results currently decorate my room well! Click on the images below to enlarge them.
The Mixed Media class of juniors have now ALL finished their Snapchat Selfie Grid Enlargements.
Check out more results below. Click to enlarge.
This trimester I am excited to have an Art History class, composed of a mixed group of high school students. We are starting with the beginning of Art back in Pre-Historic times.
We learned about Stonehenge, the Venus of Willendorf, and Cave Paintings of Lascaux.
Students had fun trying out the style of pictographs on brown paper, symbolizing the cave walls.
Up next, it's time for Egyptian profile drawings.
My 1st hour 3D Art/Ceramics class is working on one of my favorite projects - Art History Mini Golf. Groups consist of 2-4 members. The groups started with a list of artists to choose from. The 6 artists pictured below were chosen. Each group will now design and construct one miniature golf hole inspired by that particular artist. After the holes are complete, we will have a little golf tournament. I'm excited to see what they come up with!
I love seeing Art History pop up on TV! Way to go Lowe's!
Can you name all of the artists that make an appearance in the commercial?
